ABOUT MARK
Born and raised in Kailua, Mark launched his music career in Honolulu's rock scene in 1976 as drummer and lead vocalist. He rocked stages with various bands across outer-island nightclubs, Southern California, Korea, Japan, Canada, and the Pacific Northwest.

'80s Highlights
In the mid-to-late 1980s, Mark fronted the Honolulu rock band Passion, opening for legends like Bon Jovi, Metallica, Whitesnake, and REO Speedwagon.

'90s and Big Dawg
In the early 90's Mark joined Paul Dean of Loverboy for the project "The Heat," touring Western Canada as lead singer. Returning to Hawaii, he co-founded the rock band Big Dawg with John Andreoni, Joe Galiza, Thomas Hinson, later, Ted Among and Ruben Duldulao. They lit up Oahu venues through the 1990s, including The Wave Waikiki, The Jazz Cellar, C5, Kailua's No Name Bar, and Sand Island R&B.

Acoustic Era and Kailua Bay Buddies
Around 1999, Mark began his acoustic journey partnering with guitarist Bin Yasuno. In the early 2000s, he formed what became Kailua Bay Buddies—originally Sol Bucket with Mele Songsong and Clayton Apilando (Darrell Aquino joined later; Mele left to start a family). They served as house band for five years at Jimmy Buffett's Waikiki and 20 years at Marriott Waikiki's Moana Terrace, now Queensbreak. KBB earned a 2014 Nā Hōku Hanohano nomination for their rock album Choice is Yours.

Recent Awards and Current Work

Mark received Nā Hōku Hanohano Awards for Rock Album of the Year on Tin Idols' 2024 Jesus Christ Super Nova and R&B Album of the Year for his participation on Hey Yo with Johnny Valentine and Darrell Aquino in 2025—plus vocals on multiple other Hoku-winning projects. Mark continues performing in-studio and live for various acts, playing drums, vocals, and guitar.

Mark is also the lead exhibit tech and audiovisual coordinator at Bishop Museum. He lives in Kailua with his wife Shelly, and their dog Princess.
